| Not a 'compromise' on Taiwan, but China's message to the US |
The media BBC reported in a report on Wednesday (January 10) that China has held military talks with the United States for the first time since 2021. This discussion was held in Washington last Monday (January 8) and Tuesday (January 9). And there, China said that it would not compromise on the Taiwan issue.
Beijing also urged the US to stop arming Taiwan and take China's concerns seriously.
Taiwan's important elections will be held in a few days. It is this election that could move Taiwan towards or away from Beijing. China said this in such a situation.
China claims that Taiwan is part of its own territory. But Taiwan considers itself separate from mainland China.
China wants to build good and "stable military relations" with the United States on the basis of equality and respect, China's Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement added that the US needs to take China's concerns "seriously". Beijing demands that the US honor its 'one-China' policy, relevant commitments and stop arming Taiwan. China also demanded that the United States should not support Taiwan's independence.
